US tourist from Boston killed in shark attack in Bahamas, police say

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP/WSVN) — A female tourist from Boston was killed Monday by a shark while paddleboarding in the Bahamas, police told reporters.The victim, who was not identified, was attacked less than a mile off the western end of New Providence island, where the capital, Nassau, is located. She was paddleboarding with a man who was not injured, according to Police Sgt. Desiree Ferguson.“We extend our heartfelt condolences…for this most unfortunate situation,” she said.Police said a lifeguard rescued both people with a boat upon seeing what was happening, but the woman suffered serious injuries to the right side of her body and was declared dead at the scene despite CPR efforts.It was not immediately clear what type of shark attacked the woman. A heist captured on camera has left the owner of C4G Jewelers counting the cost after two, possibly three, individuals backed a flatbed tow truck into the business, making away with a safe containing approximately $900,000 in cash and jewelry.Surveillance footage revealed the thieves inside the establishment, skillfully using a tow truck to hook a line around the safe before pulling it through the front door. 79-year-old Acton man arraigned after arrest on child enticement charge

A 79-year-old-man Acton man was arraigned on Monday after police said he tried to meet up with a 14-year-old boy for sex over the weekend. Acton police in a statement said they have evidence Douglas Cooper showed up at the South Acton Commuter Rail station Saturday afternoon hoping to meet the boy, whom he had met on an online gay hookup site. Police, though, said there was never a boy involved. NEW YORK — Most business economists think the U.S. economy could avoid a recession next year, even if the job market ends up weakening under the weight of high interest rates, according to a survey released Monday.Only 24% of economists surveyed by the National Association for Business Economics said they see a recession in 2024 as more likely than not. Detroit on track to record fewest homicides since 1966, officials say

The city of Detroit is on-track to see its fewest yearly homicides in nearly six decades, officials said Monday.Through Nov. 30, Detroit had recorded 228 homicides — an 18% decrease over the same period last year. In 2018, Detroit had 261 homicides, the fewest number since 1966, when there were 214 homicides.Officials credit a partnership between the city, Wayne County and the state that improves coordination among agencies and courts.
